Get on the List

Get on the Desires List to get weekly emails and inspiration from me.

James and I are back in London after a month of traveling and are gearing up for an incredible year ahead.

This past week, I posted something in my I Heart My Lifers group that got far more response than I ever expected, and for that reason, I knew it was something I wanted to bring up today…

One of the things I didn’t realize when I started my business was that reading negative comments on my Facebook ads would become part of my daily routine.

Facebook ads are incredible, and are a big reason why I am where I am today, but unfortunately, not everyone adheres to the oldie but goodie “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say it at all” when it comes to social media as I’m sure you know…

For example, below my ads I’ve had strangers have lengthy conversations about pyramid schemes, how I’m discriminating by only targeting women who are married (what?!), how it’s not possible to do what I’ve done so I must be lying, and the list goes on.

Not fun.

(On a lighter note, someone once put comment on my ad that used this photo below saying she was offended that she could see my bra through my shirt.

And another person said that my photo in front of the Eiffel Tower – see in the header above – was the worst Paris photoshop job they’d ever seen despite the fact that I really was there!

We have to laugh, right?!)

Although the majority of what I experience on a daily basis is positive, I have my fair share of mean comments too, and from what I saw in my group last week, it’s important for me to admit that.

The truth is lovely, when you put yourself out there, not everyone is going to like you and mean comments are inevitable.

But the good news is that you don’t need everyone to like you to run a successful business.

Recently, one of my mentors shared a concept with me that says 25% of the room will love you, 25% will love you but can be convinced not to love you, 25% won’t love you but can be convinced to love you, and 25% won’t like you at all. (I believe she got this from Jim Rohn, but don’t quote me on that.)

To be honest, there are more than enough people in that first 25% to support your brand, build a tribe, and enable you to work with an incredible group of clients.

You actually don’t need that other 75% to be successful, and trust me, it’s okay if they don’t get it or get you. They have their own people and path to follow so focus on that 25%.

So if you’re in that place today – being judged for the first time, feeling like there’s negativity surrounding you or if you, too, are deleting negative posts on your Facebook ads – know that you’re not alone, and it’s all just part of doing something big and putting yourself out there.

And believe me when I say that your 25% is out there waiting to find you, and they’re extraordinary.

So keep moving forward! Keep letting your light shine! Keep making a difference in the world! Keep being you and know that you’re not alone.

You’ve got this.
